7.2v is about it chookfoot,
may take a little more but there is no benefit, they are limited to 5v internally, it can be of benefit to the audio because that is not regulated to 5v, makes the targets sound a bit brighter.

Just a note of caution here guys.
I have tried 3 of them and all charge to 8.4v.
My old green 2100 and my 2200d wont start on them but a 2100v2 will, so there is something in the internals of the other machines that trips out at 8.4v
Also the battery drops to 1.2v with a quick flick on the start switch on both machines and recovers to 8.4v after 5 mins on the charger. So I quess there is some protection in the battery as well.
Other than that, it runs the 2100v2 most of the day.

G'day driller,
put a 3 amp diode in series off the battery and that should drop the voltage under 8v and get it working on all your detector's. Will also work on GP's!

G'day driller,
Buy 2 1N4001 diodes, put one in series and check the voltage, if its still too high put both diodes in series.
I think 1 will do the job for you!

I think you will find those Li-Ion batteries have a protect tripping mechanism.
That is why you have to put it back in the charger to reset it.
To overcome this problem you first have to switch your detect on then turn on the power supply.
Apparently you have to turn on your detector first then turn on the power supply.
If you turn your power supply on first, instead of your detector, the power from the battery has nowhere to go. The internal circuitry and circuit breaker interprets this as a possible fault in the circuit and trips the breaker.
Cheers
Ted

Thanks Ted,
I think you are right. I made up a small plastic box with a 4 pin chassis mount direct wired to 2 pins that push into the battery. The chassis mount is soldered to the pins hence no on/off switch.
The whole unit is velcroed the machine, connected via a short power cable, then hip mounted.
I`m already trialling Inhere`s solution to the problem. It may be even with this I need to include a switch.
Stay tuned.
Driller.

G'day Driller topcat is correct, you do have to turn on the detector first or it won't start.
I have coiltek's setup, they appear to use one of the charger cases for a cradle to mount the battery, with a switch in the case.

Update........
I fitted an on/off switch and 2 diodes in series and dropped the voltage from 8.4 to 7.8.
Both machines now work.
Thanks for the help Guys.

I hope I am not going against the forum's rules here? , is so i do apologise.
As I am "not" a tech minded person, is there any one who can make up this package and I can buy it?. Or is there some one who is selling them?

What about if I wanted a regulated 6.8V for an extreme like the reids 'lucky lark" lithium pack ?
If the GP extreme is internally regulated to 5V (except for the audio circuit), is there any advantage in using a regulator at 6.8V / 6.0V or unregulated 2cell lipo with a diode or 2 ?
seems if you're using an external amp, it's not gonna make any difference.
BTW for about $12 you can get a 'lipo battery low voltage alarm' to protect your lipos from over discharge.
Cheers !
